About
Muffie Connelly is a Certified GYROTONIC® instructor, dancer, mother, and dedicated women’s health researcher. She believes that exercise should feel good and that, with commitment and consistent practice, all people can achieve heightened levels of comfort and efficiency. Her GYROTONIC® teaching reflects an extensive background in modern, contemporary and ballet dance techniques, Alexander technique, yoga and her experience in motherhood. She designs a workout that is challenging and rewarding to each individual.
Muffie received her BFA in Dance with a minor in International Arts from the University of Illinois. In her career as a dancer and movement researcher, Muffie has lived, performed and studied in New York, Chicago, New Orleans, San Francisco, Zimbabwe, and Chile. In 2007 Muffie moved to San Francisco where she received her GYROTONIC® Certification at San Francisco GYROTONIC® (SFG). There she mentored, trained and worked along side Authorized Master Trainer, Debra Rose and Master Trainer Nora Heiber. During her time at SFG, she also earned her Certification on the Archway and took the Osteopathic Applications in GYROTONIC® and GYROTONIC® Level 2 courses. Through SFG, she taught GYROTONIC® for the Alonzo King’s LINES Ballet Summer Program and as a part of the dance program at Dominican University. In 2013 Muffie earned her Gyrokinesis Certification in Portland, Oregon from Master Trainer Emma Kingston and also completed the coursework for the GYROTONIC® Healing and Rejuvenation for the Hands and Feet.
In 2010, after the birth of her first daughter, Muffie began to focus on GYROTONIC® for women’s health. She specializes in preparing the body for pregnancy and postpartum fitness. She uses the low impact exercises and breathing methods of GYROTONIC® to create workouts that stabilize the pelvis, maintain connection with the abdominals and pelvic floor, open the chest and promote relaxation.
Muffie believes that every body is unique and every person has their own goals; she tailors each session to meet the individual needs of each client. Muffie teaches balanced systems in the body by helping clients gain equal flexibility and strength. This practice creates postural support and bouyancy in the joints, particularly the spine and allows the body to move, free of pressure and strain.
